Magazine industry auditors say that U.S. magazine circulation fell 1 percent in the first six months of the year to 289 million.
Magazines are selling more digital copies, but this represents just 3.3 percent of total circulation. Magazines sold 10.2 million digital copies in the first half of this year. That’s nearly double the 5.4 million in the first half of 2012.
Paid subscriptions were mostly unchanged, while single-copy sales at newsstands and retailers fell 10 percent.
The Alliance for Audited Media said Tuesday that the top circulation magazines were the senior-focused AARP the Magazine and AARP Bulletin, with nearly 22 million each.
