Two Lakewood boys taking part in a family biking trip were injured Sunday when a car crashed onto their bike path.

The boys were riding with their mother and two siblings when the accident occurred, around 11 a.m. One of the children was pinned under the vehicle but managed to climb out, a first responder told TheLakewoodScoop.com. Both were treated at hospitals for minor injuries and later released.

The driver, a 32-year-old Lakewood man described as a white male with tattoos, fled the scene on foot but was apprehended by police in a nearby home. He told police he was test-driving a vehicle when the brakes failed. He then attempted to jump from the vehicle, which ended up entering the bike path.

The motorist was cited for driving with a suspended license, and the car’s owner was cited for allowing an unlicensed person to operate their vehicle.
