Opponents File Suit Against NYC Plan for New Taxis
Opponents of New York City’s plan for a mandatory uniform fleet of yellow taxis on Wednesday filed a lawsuit to block it.
The Greater New York Taxi Association and medallion owner Evgeny “Gene” Freidman claims the plan oversteps Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s authority under the law by improperly forcing cab drivers to buy a van they don’t want and give up the hybrids that are on the road.
The Taxi and Limousine Commission called the suit “another misguided attempt to deprive New Yorkers of the safest, most comfortable custom-built new taxicab.”
