Spring Trial Likely in Etan Patz Cold Case

NEW YORK (AP) —

The murder trial for a man accused of killing 6-year-old Etan Patz who vanished in 1979 will likely be held next spring, the judge announced Wednesday as suspect Pedro Hernandez appeared briefly in court.

Hernandez, a convenience store clerk near where the boy was last seen, confessed to the crime. But his lawyer has said his client is schizophrenic and bipolar, and that his admission was false.
