Ethics Panel Extends Probe Into Rep. Bishop

WASHINGTON (AP) —

The House Ethics Committee is extending an investigation into possible ethics violations by Rep. Tim Bishop, a New York Democrat. The panel did not identify the reasons for the investigation and said that the extension does not indicate a violation has occurred.

Bishop was the focus of complaints last year for helping get fireworks permits for a friend’s event. The request came from a businessman who later donated $5,000 to Bishop’s campaign.

The panel will announce its next course of action by Sept. 11.
