Bloomberg Slams Spitzer’s Anti-Wall Street Remarks

NEW YORK (AP) —

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says it’s “not very helpful” to New York City’s economy when Eliot Spitzer badmouths Wall Street while campaigning for city comptroller.

“This is our industry. That doesn’t help, thank you very much,” he said. “We’d appreciate if someone recognized that this is our tax base; this is how we pay our firefighters and police officers and provide services.”

Spitzer campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan says Spitzer agrees that the financial industry is important but feels it’s also vital to safeguard workers’ pensions from the practices of an “unethical few.”
