Killing Police Animal Will Be Felony Under NY Law
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law making it a greater crime to kill a police animal, legislation inspired by the shooting of an FBI dog during an upstate shooting rampage.
The so-called “Ape’s Law” was named for the 2-year-old Czech German Shepherd killed by Kurt Myers as it led the way for officers who stormed an abandoned bar where Myers was hiding in March.
The new law, which takes effect Nov. 1, elevates the crime to a felony from a misdemeanor.
