NY Schools Chosen for Greek Yogurt Pilot Program
New York is one of four states chosen to participate in a U.S. Department of Agriculture pilot program to purchase Greek yogurt for schools.
Participating schools in Tennessee, Idaho, and Arizona will also test in the upcoming school year whether it’s cost effective for the agency to buy Greek yogurt on behalf of schools operating the National School Lunch Program.
Since yogurt is highly perishable, the USDA chose four states regionally that have differing proximity to yogurt manufacturers and plans to test distribution through various warehousing models. If it works, the program could become national.
