Man Charged Under Obscure Law Banning Boating at Night
Most people did not know that it is illegal to ride a personal recreational watercraft on the Hudson River after dark. But Westchester County police say they’ve arrested a man doing just that.
Jonathan Cabreja was riding a Jet Ski-style watercraft with two others around 9 p.m. Saturday in Yonkers. As police boats turned on emergency lights and a siren to stop them, two of the three sped away. Cabreja was arrested at the John F. Kennedy Marina after leading police on a miles-long chase and a brief struggle. He was charged with three violations of state navigation law.
