Prosecutor: Two Posed as Cops to Commit Robberies
Two northern New Jersey men who allegedly posed as police officers while robbing several people they believed to be recent immigrants are now facing numerous counts, including robbery and criminal restraint.
Morris County prosecutors say 37-year-old Vincenzo Viola of Orange and 34-year-old Robert Capriglione of Clifton were captured early Sunday inside a vacant Mendham Township home.
The arrests came after a Township police officer noticed a truck outside the residence that matched descriptions of a vehicle used in the robberies.
Authorities say searches of the home and vehicles used by the two men uncovered police jackets, two genuine police badges on chains, and other items that linked them to the robberies, which occurred last week in Dover.
Bail for both men has been set at $300,000 cash.
