Don’t Share the Germs!

Thank you for reporting on the latest measles outbreak in Boro Park and Williamsburg. I am especially gratified that you emphasized the responsibility people have to stay away from those who are unvaccinated, especially as there is an epidemic going on in England.

I think it is important to publicize another waiting health-related time bomb regarding the safe handling of food. In bakeries and supermarkets, rolls, bagels and challos are left on the shelves, where people touch them, kids handle them, without giving any thought to the sterility or cleanliness of their hands.

I cringe when I see this happening, and I then have to purchase — and eat — those products. If you must touch that Danish or cupcake, use a paper or make sure you only touch what you will buy.
