NY Senate Honors Veterans From Across the State

ALBANY (AP) —

Two of the last surviving members of a Marine Corps commando unit from World War II are among the dozens of veterans who have been honored by the New York Senate.

Gerald West of Fort Edward and Robert Addison of Glens Falls were among the original 900 members of the 1st Marine Raider Battalion, dubbed “Edson’s Raiders” after their commander.

West and Addison survived the bloody island battles of the Pacific Theater, both settled in the Glens Falls area and have remained friends ever since.

The two men were among more than 50 vets from across the state inducted into the Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame on Tuesday. Each year, Senate members nominate veterans to be inducted in recognition of their military service.
