World War II Bomb Found in Tel Aviv
A bomb dating back to World War II was discovered and detonated at a Tel Aviv beach by Israeli ordinance experts, The Jerusalem Post reported.
Police and IDF engineers on Sunday set off the 130 kilogram bomb safely. It had been found in sand dunes in north Tel Aviv in mid-April.
Prior to the controlled detonation, police closed off some streets in Ramat Aviv and elsewhere in north Tel Aviv.
Yoram Ohayon, head of the Yarkon sub-district of the Tel Aviv police, said that the bomb was spotted while officers were on a routine patrol, looking for Palestinians illegally residing within the Green Line.
They have not yet determined the origins of the bomb or how it got to the beach, Ohayon said.
