Speaker Silver Expected to Endorse Thomson for Mayor
Albany insiders say they expect Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to follow his close friend Merryl Tisch and endorse former City Comptroller William Thompson for mayor of New York City.
Fred Dicker of the New York Post said that while Silver has yet to endorse a candidate, last week’s backing by Tisch, chancellor of the board of regents, is an indication of how one of the state’s most powerful Democrats will endorse.
Silver and Tisch are longtime friends, Dicker said, and “many on the inside” say that she would never have endorsed Thompson without first getting approval from Silver.
