Kosel Plot Thwarted
Israeli security forces have broken up a plot to carry out shooting and kidnapping attacks against Jews at the Kosel, according to media reports on Thursday.
An indictment was filed against a terror cell of five Palestinian residents of east Yerushalayim.
Prosecutors accuse defendant Nor Hamdan of deciding in February 2013 to perpetrate terrorism at the Kosel plaza, for which he recruited the others.
Hamdan sought to receive training, guidance and weaponry from several terrorist organizations both in Yehudah and Shomron and in Gaza, the indictment charged.
The terror cell held a series of meetings in February and March and intended to help terror organizations in their operations against Israeli targets, the indictment said.
Among the cell’s plans was the kidnapping of a Jew with a weapon in order to kill him and steal his weapon for future terror activities.
The gang was caught based on intelligence work by Israel Police, the Shabak and the IDF.
