NYC Creates Online Database for Potter’s Field
The New York City Department of Correction has created a searchable database on its website for those buried in potter’s field.
More than 65,000 names dating to 1977 are on the registry. The agency said more names of those buried on Hart Island will be added as they become available and can be searched by name, age, gender and year of death.
Correction department Commissioner Dora Schriro says the database will be of particular use for those searching for people long considered lost.
