Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) on Thursday became the first to endorse for Rep. Anthony Weiner for mayor of New York City, Politico reported.
“Anthony’s a good guy, in my opinion,” Ellison said. “Look, man, nobody here is perfect. Anthony was a great congressman … and he’s dealt with his issues, and everybody has issues. So I’d love to see Anthony Weiner be mayor of New York. I hereby endorse him.” Ellison said his endorsement was “unsolicited.”
Weiner told The New York Times Magazine on Wednesday that he was considering a mayoral bid this year. The former Democratic congressman from New York resigned from Congress in 2011 following the fallout of a scandal.
