Lake-Effect Storms Hitting Western, Central NY
Parts of upstate New York near the shorelines of lakes Erie and Ontario are getting hit by lake-effect storms that have dumped up to a foot of snow on some areas, with winds gusting between 30 and 40 mph.
The National Weather Service reports that 12 inches of snow has fallen in Perrysburg in Cattaraugus County, south of Buffalo, while 10 inches has fallen in Sinclairville in neighboring in Chautauqua County.
Six inches is reported in parts of Oswego County on Lake Ontario’s eastern end, and 9 inches has fallen in areas of neighboring Lewis County. Forecasters say more than a foot of snow will likely fall in some areas by the time the storms ease Thursday morning.
