Jack Teitel Convicted
Yaakov “Jack” Teitel was convicted yesterday in Yerushalayim District Court of killing two Palestinians and trying to kill two others.
The court determined that Teitel was in full control of his faculties at the time of the murders, rejecting the defense’s repeated claims that he was legally insane and therefore could not be held responsible for his actions.
Teitel was arrested in 2009 and held without bail. According to court transcripts, he was convicted of the 1997 murder of Samir Akram, a Palestinian bus driver, and of Issa Jabarin, a Palestinian shepherd. He was also convicted of trying to kill the the leader of a messianic cult and of wounding Professor Ze’ev Sternhell in 2008 by concealing a pipe bomb in a plant outside his house.
