Re “Tone-Deaf Jewish Marketing” by Rabbi Avi Shafran

Thank you, Rabbi Shafran, for so eloquently expressing what I have felt for years. So much advertising is based on non-Jewish values and should not be allowed in frum publications. I think that just as the editors choose content and images that are appropriate and in line with Torah hashkafah, so, too, the editors should only accept ads that reflect the same. It shouldn’t be too difficult to explain to the advertisers and marketing people that these types of ads actually alienate their client base and are a source of ridicule. In any case, the editors do reserve the right to choose what ads they put into their publications and should exercise that right with Torah values in mind.
