Ohel on Kever of the Maharsha Desecrated
Mispallelim who came to daven at the kever of the Maharsha in Ostroh (Ostrog), in Western Ukraine, on Friday were shocked to see that the site of the kever had been desecrated and vandalized.
The building of the ohel, which holds the kever, was desecrated, all the sifrei kodesh, including sifrei Tehillim and other sefarim, were desecrated and thrown on the floor, and all the windows and doors were smashed.
The association that built the structure, Ohalei Tzaddikim, headed by Rabbi Yisrael Meir Gabbay, called on the local authorities to bring the rioters to justice, so that such cases will not be repeated in the future, chalilah.
The Maharsha, Harav Shmuel Eliezer Eideles, is known for his commentary on the Gemara.
He served as Rav and Rosh Yeshivah in several communities, with his last post as Rav and Rosh Yeshivah of Ostroh. He was niftar on 5 Kislev 5392/1631.
The shul of the Maharsha was restored two years ago.
