Democratic State Lawmaker From Hudson Valley Dies

ALBANY – An assemblyman who emigrated from Greece as a teenager and worked to revitalize struggling parts of the Hudson Valley died Sunday after a battle with pancreatic cancer, The Associated Press reported. A replacement for Democrat Frank Skartados, 62, will be selected in November.

Police Rescue Over 100 Animals From Upstate Farm

LISBON, N.Y. – Police on Saturday rescued 103 animals from a farm where they were living in squalid conditions, the Post-Standard reported. They arrested a couple and removed 25 geese, 20 pigs, 13 chickens, 13 sheep, nine dogs, seven donkeys, seven rabbits, three ducks, a cat, two parakeets, a guinea hen, a pigeon and a tortoise.

Two Burglars Steal $1,900 From Bronx Warehouse

BRONX – Police are searching for two men who stole $1,900 from a printing warehouse, WCBS reported. One of the burglars threatened workers with what looked like a gun before they both fled. Police released images of the suspects.

Shoplifter Dies After Being Subdued by Employees

FLATBUSH – A man suspected of shoplifting collapsed and died Sunday morning after he was subdued by Stop & Shop supermarket employees, the Daily News reported. Managers said they were saddened by the death of Ralph Nimmons, 51.
