Sifrei Torah Stolen From Chabad in Hawaii

HONOLULU (AP) —

Two sifrei Torah were stolen from Chabad of Hawaii over the weekend.

The sifrei Torah were taken from the shul, located in Honolulu on the island of Oahu, either Shabbos or Sunday. The shul, under the leadership of a shliach Rabbi Itchel Krasnjansky, is offering a $5,000 reward for their safe return.

The Chabad House is concerned that the items will be smuggled off the island for sale on the black market.

One of the stolen sifrei Torah survived the Holocaust; the other was purchased in memory of a boy in the community who was niftar.
