Israeli officials on Monday night handed over to his family the body of Hussein Attala, a Hamas terrorist who had been serving a 35-year prison sentence in an Israeli prison. Attala died in prison, of cancer, according to his family. A Hamas spokesperson blamed “poor and careless Israeli medical care” for his death. The funeral for Attala was held in Shechem Monday night.

Attala was in prison on a series of security and criminal charges. He was sentenced to life in prison in 1996, commuted to 32 years at a later trial. In 2017 an extra three years was tacked onto his sentence when he threw a pot of boiling water at a prison officer after he was told he could not have a visitation he had demanded.

Overnight Monday, security officials said they arrested eight wanted security suspects in other areas in Yehudah and Shomron. The suspects were wanted for participating in rioting and throwing stones and firebombs that endangered Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. Several of the suspects were also charged with belonging to Hamas. All were being questioned on their activities by security forces.
