Elor Azariya, the IDF soldier convicted of manslaughter for the shooting death of a wounded Arab terrorist a year ago, passed out and was taken to the hospital on Sunday.

Azariya repeatedly lost consciousness while carrying out routine maintenance work at the Nahshonim base, where is staying while awaiting appeal on his 18-month sentence.

Azariya was undergoing medical examinations, including EKG tests. Severe emotional stress was thought the likely cause. People close to the Azariya family attributed the incident to the severe stress of the trial and sentencing. Hospital staff are keeping him under observation meanwhile, also due to the fear that he may seek to harm himself.

Azariya’s parents, Charlie and Oshra, rushed to the hospital after they were notified of the incident.
