Dublin City Hall to Fly Palestinian Flag

Dublin City Hall.

City Councillors in Dublin, Ireland, have agreed to fly the Palestinian flag over Dublin City Hall “in solidarity with occupied and displaced” Palestinians.

The motion was proposed by Cllr. John Lyons, of the People Before Profit Alliance, who is known for his pro-Palestinian views.  It read “noting recent reports of diplomatic developments by the Irish state toward full recognition of the state of Palestine … this city council will fly the flag of Palestine over City Hall for the month of May 2017 in support of the above diplomatic moves.”

The motion is still subject to approval by the full council in a vote on May 8.

The Israel Embassy said that giving approval to the motion would “defame the good name of the city of Dublin and its citizens.”

A spokesman for the embassy said, “It will in effect raise a white flag of submission to terror organisations, hatred and blackmail.”
