Health Minister Rabbi Yaakov Litzman, Interior Minister Rabbi Aryeh Deri, Finance Committee Chairman Rabbi Moshe Gafni and other MKs released statements on Motzoei Shabbos, after learning that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu published a social media post in which he mentioned holding a meeting about the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC) on Shabbos.

Rabbi Litzman noted that for an official office to be holding meetings on Shabbos is a breach in the status quo. He added that he would raise the severity of the issue with the prime minister, and to ask him for an explanation to this chillul Shabbos. “Over the years, the government never held meetings on Shabbos or on the chagim,” said Rabbi Litzman.

“This meeting, which was not about issues related to pikuach nefesh, should not have been held on Shabbos. This is a very serious issue, and Netanyahu’s unprecedented decision is absolutely unacceptable – even if the meeting was unofficial,” Rabbi Gafni said.

Prime Minister Netanyahu held discussions about the Israel Broadcasting Authority and the IPBC with several ministers and Likud MKs.
