The IDF completed its evacuation of area A of the Tira base at the entrance to Tirat HaCarmel near Haifa, the military’s central transit depot for decades.

The base, covering 57 acres, was handed over by the Defense Ministry to civilian authorities for construction of some 4,000 housing units.

Tira is part of an historic redeployment of IDF bases that will make available land for over 60,000 housing units in the north and central parts of the country.
