IDF Officer Resigns After Theft of Computer

YERUSHALAYIM

The head of the IDF Manpower Directorate, Maj. Gen. Hagai Topolansky, announced his resignation on Wednesday night following the theft of his army computer, which may have contained classified documents.

An army police investigation was immediately opened in the matter, but the IDF censor is not permitting publication of further details about the stolen items at this time.

Topolansky was interrogated in connection with the theft.

The burglars apparently gained entry to Topolansky’s home in the Be’er Tuvia Regional Council through a window and stole his military laptop, as well as his daughter’s car. Four other homes in the area were also burglarized.

The resignation was accepted by IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot, who described Topolansky as a well-regarded officer, a fighter pilot who dedicated his life to the protection of the state of Israel. Eisenkot added that Topolansky’s decision was consistent with what is required of every commander in the IDF under such circumstances.
