Israir Now Number Two Carrier at Ben Gurion

As would be expected, El Al has the most flights leaving from and arriving at Ben Gurion Airport, but which carrier is number two? Until recently, the answer – perhaps surprisingly – was Turkish Airlines, but in October that changed. Now, Israeli carrier Israir has taken over second place.

During October, Israir carried 92,000 passengers to and from Ben Gurion, an increase of 134 percent over the passenger figure in October 2015. Israir now has 5.4 percent of the passenger traffic to and from Israel, double the level of a year earlier. The company itself has grown 26 percent since the beginning of 2016.

Speaking to Globes, Gil Stav, director of sales and marketing for Israir, said that the results “again emphasize that Israeli customers want packages that provide a full experience, a specialty of Israir. Most of our customers purchase full vacation experiences, and not just plane tickets. We have also seen growth of other segments, such as all-inclusive vacations, charter tours, and organized tours in cooperation with other carriers. We have also expanded our destination routes to include Romania, Bulgaria and Georgia, where growth has been significant.”
