Hamas Says Negotiating for Prisoner Swap
A Hamas official told Israel Radio on Wednesday that negotiations are under way for a prisoner exchange that would release two Israeli civilians and the remains of two IDF soldiers for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
The official stipulated that the deal could only be made if Israel will first release hundreds of Palestinians who were rearrested after they were freed in the 2011 Gilad Shalit deal.
When asked if Hamas would supply evidence that the Israeli civilians are still alive and well, he said that “everything comes at a price,” and the negotiations would take place behind closed doors.
Hamas is holding the remains of soldiers Oron Shaul, Hy”d, and Hadar Goldin, Hy”d, who were killed in the 2014 Gaza fighting, as well as 29-year-old Avraham Mengistu and Juma Ibrahim Abu Anima, who entered Gaza on their own and have not been heard from since.
