Suspect Apprehended, Hostages Safe, at Burger King in Baltimore

BALTIMORE (AP) —

Police say they’ve apprehended an armed suspect who barricaded himself in a Burger King in Southwest Baltimore and took hostages, including a seven-year-old girl for several hours.

Baltimore Police said on Twitter that the suspect is in custody and the hostages are unharmed.

Earlier, police spokesman T.J. Smith had said that the suspect was wanted on a warrant for a crime committed within the past couple of days. He was spotted driving Sunday morning; police tried to pull him over, but he fled and led police on a chase. The suspect crashed into another vehicle, then fled by foot while carrying what Smith said was “believed to be a handgun” into the Burger King.

The man held the hostages for several hours, as swarms of police, including a SWAT team, surrounded the restaurant.

Smith said the driver of the vehicle who was hit by the suspect’s vehicle was being treated for minor injuries.
