burning memorial candlesRabbanit Yael Cohen, a”h, the wife of, lhbch”l, Hagaon Harav Shalom Cohen, shlita, Rosh Yeshivah, Yeshivat Porat Yosef in the Old City, and Nasi of the Moetzet Chachamei HaTorah of Shas, was niftar Tuesday morning.

The Rabbanit, who had been unwell recently with a serious disease, was hospitalized since last week in Bnei Brak’s Maayanei Hayeshuah Hospital, where she passed away Tuesday morning.

Born in Kislev 5698/1937, Rabbanit Yael Cohen was the oldest daughter of Harav Mansour Ben-Shimon, zt”l, one of the leading Sephardic Rabbanim, noted mekubal and Ram in Yeshivat Porat Yosef. Her brothers are, yblch”t, Harav Shlomo Ben-Shimon; Harav Masoud Ben-Shimon and Harav Nissim Ben-Shimon. Her younger brother, Harav Mordechai Ben-Shimon, zt”l, passed away in 5754/1994, at the age of 46.

After marrying Hagaon Harav Shalom Cohen, shlita, son of the noted mekubal, Harav Efraim Cohen, zt”l, the Rabbanit dedicated herself totally, with much mesirus nefesh, to her husband’s needs, allowing him to submerge himself and devote his life to disseminating Torah.

The levayah of the Rabbanit will begin at 2:00 p.m., from Yeshivat Porat Yosef to the Sanhedria cemetery in Yerushalayim, where she will be buried.

The Rabbanit is survived by three sons, five daughters and many grandchildren.
