Officials: Airline Worker With $282K in Backpack Arrested

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) —

An airline employee at Palm Beach International Airport has been arrested after authorities say he was found with $282,000 in a backpack he was allegedly instructed to deliver to a passenger in an airport restroom.

Citing court records, news outlets report Jean Yves Selius of Boynton Beach was taken into custody Saturday. He faces a charge of illegal money transmitting.

Federal officials say Selius, a Delta Airlines ramp agent, was stopped after he bypassed security checkpoints and used his employee badge to enter a secure part of the airport.

Selius told authorities he was being paid to give the backpack to an unidentified traveler in the restroom. He said this was the fifth time he received payment to smuggle money into the airport.

It isn’t immediately clear if Selius has an attorney.
