Youth Corps Opens for the Summer in NYC
The Youth Corps season is open in New York City and applications are now available, a Brooklyn lawmaker announced Sunday.
Councilman Chaim Deutsch said that forms for the 2016 Summer Youth Employment Program are available on the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development website to be filled out online, or at community-based organizations.
The deadline to apply is April 15. Participants of the program are selected by lottery. Those with additional questions about SYEP can call Councilman Deutsch’s office at 718-368-9176.
The program provides New York City youths between the ages of 14 and 24 with paid summer employment for up to 25 hours per week for six weeks in July and August, giving them the chance to earn wages during their months off from school.
Workers will be paid the 2016 minimum hourly wage of $9.00.
The program also offers training workshops in job readiness, financial literacy and opportunities for participants to continue their education.
