Lake-Effect Snow Storms Hitting Parts of Upstate NY
The weather is causing travel problems in western New York at the start of what forecasters say will be a three-day onslaught of lake-effect storms expected to dump about two feet of snow by mid-week.
A 50-mile stretch of Interstate 90’s westbound lanes along Lake Erie southwest of Buffalo was closed briefly because of blowing snow Monday morning from Exit 57A in Evans to Exit 61 at Ripley, on the Pennsylvania border.
The National Weather Service has issued lake-effect snow warnings for areas east of lakes Erie and Ontario, where up to 30 inches is expected in the Tug Hill region north of Syracuse.
Forecasters say parts of western New York will get a few inches of snow Monday, followed by higher amounts Tuesday and Wednesday before the storms diminish.
