$105M Set for Upgrades to Northern New York Border Crossing

Sen. Charles Schumer says more than $100 million in federal funding has been secured to make long-sought improvements to a busy crossing on the U.S.-Canada border in northern New York.

The New York Democrat says the $105 million included in the federal budget agreement will be used to reconstruct the border crossing at Alexandria Bay, on the St. Lawrence River 90 miles north of Syracuse.

Local officials have been trying for a decade to get funding for upgrades to the border plaza located at the northern end of Interstate 81.

Schumer says the Alexandria Bay crossing handles hundreds of thousands of commercial and private vehicles each year. He says the improvements will help boost the economy throughout the Thousand Islands region.
