Massive Fire Tears Through Multiple Row Houses in the Bronx

NEW YORK (AP) —

Officials say dozens of people have been displaced by a massive fire that ripped through multiple row houses in the Bronx, and six firefighters and three civilians were treated Friday for minor injuries.

The FDNY said the blaze broke out just before midnight on Valentine Avenue and East 180th Street in Fordham Heights.

The fire quickly escalated and spread to seven other two- and three-story buildings. It was contained at 3:04 a.m., but firefighters remained on the scene to monitor hot spots.

A fire department spokesman says 89 people have been displaced by the blaze.

Health officials advised area residents to keep their windows closed and stay indoors if possible due to acrid smoke from the fire.

Officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
