Car of Rishon L’Tzion, Harav Yitzchak Yosef, Hit With Stones Near Kever Yosef
It now has been released for publication that despite a heavy military presence, the vehicle transporting the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Harav Yitzchak Yosef, was pelted with stones by Palestinian rioters after he left the area of Kever Yosef in Shechem on Sunday night. B’chasdei Hashem, Harav Yosef and his companions were unhurt, though several vehicles incurred light damage.
The Chief Rabbi, who encourages Jews to continue to visit mekomos hakedoshim even in these tense times, had arrived at the kever after coordinating his visit with IDF commanders who had sought to provide security for the duration of the visit.
Harav Yosef was shaken when he saw the extent of the damage and destruction caused by Palestinian rioters when they set the kever afire last week.
“What happened here is simply the actions of ISIS,” the Rav said. “The heart can’t grasp the evil …. What [kinds of] people can destroy such a holy place? We, the Jewish Nation, guard their sacred sites, and their mosques, and they without shame treat such a holy place as Kever Yosef this way?”
