Man Arrested for Conning Elderly Woman in Bail Scam

A Brooklyn man was arrested for scamming an 85-year-old woman out of $8,000 by saying her daughter-in-law had been arrested and needed bail money.

Emmanuel Jean-Gilles pleaded not guilty Thursday to grand larceny and possession of stolen property charges.

A man then identified himself as a police detective and told her he would call a taxi so she could wire the money. Surveillance video showed Jean-Gilles withdrawing it about three hours later.
