On First Day of School, Gazans Fire Rocket At Israel

YERUSHALAYIM (Hamodia Staff) —

Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, also known as as the Sinai Province of the Islamic State, attempted a rocket attack on the Ashkelon region on Tuesday morning, which, b’chasdei Shamayim, caused no damage.

Although the firing set off air raid sirens in the south of Israel, the projectile landed inside the  Gaza Strip.

The launching came on the first day of the Israeli school year, as approximately 2.2 million children returned to classrooms. The incident did not interfere with the first day’s classes, said Yair Farjoun, head of the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council.

However, Farjoun called on the Defense Ministry to increase protection against rockets for the schools in his region, which remain vulnerable to attack.

The number of students in school reflects a 2.29 percent rise over the previous school year, according to the Education Ministry.
