Maimonides Hospital Enters Affiliation With North Shore-LIJ

BROOKLYN

Maimonides Medical Center agreed on Tuesday to enter an affiliation with North Shore-LIJ Health System, with the board of Boro Park’s premier hospital unanimously approving a relationship with the country’s 14th largest health care system.

A joint announcement made Wednesday said the two sides will fully integrate “in a phased approach that will begin immediately.” Both institutions will remain independent and have separate governance structures for now.

North Shore-LIJ spokesman Terry Lynam says the move will mean “tens of millions” of dollars in renovations and outpatient expansion for the 711-bed Boro Park hospital. The agreement allows the two sides to work together immediately rather than waiting for the state’s approval for full integration.

In related news, Pamela Brier, Maimonides’s president and CEO since 2003, announced at the Tuesday board meeting that she would be retiring at the beginning of 2016. Her successor is the hospital’s board chair, Kenneth Gibbs.
