Low Income Ill NYers Eligible for Free Air Conditioners
Low income New Yorkers with a medical issue can apply for an air conditioner to protect them from illness exacerbated by the extreme heat of the upcoming summer.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that $3 million in HEAP funds will be made available on a first come, first served basis. Qualifying households must meet income guidelines and have an ill resident with a condition exacerbated by heat.
For a family of four, a maximum gross monthly income of $4,219 is allowed; for a family of nine, it’s $5,949. A note from a physician is also required.
