Rally for Choice By Charter Schools

ALBANY (AP/Hamodia) —

Some 8,000 students, parents and teachers of New York charter schools are expected to participate in a school choice rally Wednesday at the state Capitol.

The rally, organized by Success Academy CEO Eva Moskowitz, was criticized by the teachers union for taking children out of class.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has called for an increase in the number of authorized charter schools. The unions are opposed to it since charters, which are publicly funded but privately run, do not require unionized teachers and are free to teach what they want.
