NJ Zoo Mourns Death of Its First Female Giraffe

The first female giraffe who took up residence at New Jersey’s Cape May County zoo has died after living there for almost 20 years.

Aziza recently died of cardiac arrest. She first arrived at the southern New Jersey zoo as a 6-month-old calf in 1995. Over the years, she gave birth to three calves of her own, including one born in March.

At that time, zoo officials noted that they were concerned about Aziza’s health. The calf, Mae, was born without complications and was healthy.
