NYers Can Now Pre-Pay on Muni-Meters

Muni-meters will soon accept pre-payments up to an hour before they begin working for the day, Assemblyman Dov Hikind announced.

The meters begin working at 9:00 a.m., too late for those who must be in their places of work by that time. Under new rules Hikind says he worked out with Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg, motorists can start feeding the meter at 8:00, and the meter will start running an hour later.

“The current situation has been very frustrating for New Yorkers,” Hikind said.

The meters will be reprogrammed city-wide starting at year’s end.
