Ruling This Week on NY Redistricting Referendum
A state judge is expected to rule this week on the wording of New York’s referendum in November to establish a new commission to determine voting districts for the state Legislature and Congress.
Common Cause-New York, a government watchdog group, wants to reword the question, arguing that the term “independent” is misleading since top legislators would choose most members.
The state Board of Elections, which wrote the language, says that word isn’t misleading, and the board needs a ruling by next week in order to process ballots in time.
