Injured Golani Brigade Commander Returns From Hospital to His Soldiers
The brigade commander of the Golani Brigade, Colonel Rassan Alian, a member of the Druze community, who was moderately injured on the first day of the ground operation, surprised his soldiers yesterday when he left the hospital and returned straight to their unit in the Gaza Strip.
Alian sustained shrapnel wounds to his face and body while commanding his unit as they entered the Saajaiya neighborhood. He underwent two surgeries to remove the shrapnel, and urged his doctors to let him return to the battlefield.
Yesterday, upon receiving his discharge notice from the Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva, he immediately put on his uniform and traveled back to the Strip. To his soldiers, who were very surprised to see him, he said that he had come to help them complete the operation, which he believes is in its final stages.
