Second Yerushalayim Fire in a Week Forces Evacuations

YERUSHALAYIM (Hamodia Staff) —

For the second time in a week, large fires in the environs of Yerushalayim necessitated evacuations of private homes on Wednesday.

Over 50 firefighting teams and six firefighting planes were dispatched to the communities of Even Sapir, Aminadav and Ora and fought the blazes all during the day and into the evening hours.

About 20 hikers were rescued, 3 homes burned in Ein Kerem, and 15 homes in Even Sapir evacuated, but no injuries were reported.

A plastics factory in Even Sapir, where one of the fires reportedly started, was damaged.

The main road to the Hadassah Hospital was closed to traffic as the surrounding area was enveloped in smoke. Even Sapir is less than 3 miles from the Ein Kerem neighborhood and within walking distance of Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital.
