Cabbie Who Wore Swastika Suspended

NEW YORK (AP/Hamodia) —

A cab driver who wore a swastika armband while on the job has been told to park his taxi for 30 days. New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission suspended the 27-year-old Gabriel Diaz operator’s license Friday.

Diaz, a Dominican immigrant who lives in the Bronx, said he believes in the “ideology of National Socialism” and will continue to show off the Nazi symbol when he’s not at work.

“If a Muslim can drive a cab wearing a turban … why can’t a person like me wear a Nazi armband?” he said. “We’ve been told lies about Hitler. … We’ve been told lies about everything.”

The Anti-Defamation League called Diaz’s armband a “frightening and offensive” message and commended the city for taking quick action.
